GRIPPED GUILTY.

The trial of Crippen has concluded with a: verdict of guilty against tho prisoner, who was duly sentenced to death by tho presiding judgo, Lord Alverstono, Lord Chief Justice of England. ■ ■ The accused, Hawley Harvey Crippou, American dontist,, was charged with having murderod his wife, Cora Crippen, otherwise Belle Elmore, , or Belle Mackamotski, at 39 Hillrop Crescent, Camden, in February last. His companion, Ethel Le Neve, who is charged with having been- an • accessory after tho fact, is to be tried separately. '■- \ ■ Crippen, who elected to give evidence on his own behalf, again occupied tho witness' stand, He said that during' tho final quarrel.with liis wife he offered her money to :go away., -He admitted that he liad not inquired of cabmen and others regarding; his wifo's flight, and had not considered the. effect the announcement of death would cause his wife's.friends;. ; Under pressure he admitted,that portion of a pyjama suit found with the remains might possibly be part of a suit his Wife hadbought. •;■' '.-■• -Counsel remarked that the oli'rth of which:'the suit was made . had; been manufactured for the first time in November, 1908. / ■:'."'.'.■■ Crippen shook, his head as if unconvinced. ,\ ■ :''".''';: ■ his evidence,' Crippen said that,, as' far as 'he was aware, the cellar at ; the Hilldrop Crescent residence had not been disturbed during his tenancy. There: were times when his wife ..was absent,■" in which tho; remains might have been' placed in the cellar.' Ho. decided to leave England, fearing he would be : arrested and detained' until his wife-was found.. ; Dr. Turnbull, of tho - London HosI pital, : '.'testified, that theVmark on the skin of portion of thebody, found,-was not an operation scar, but caused by the folding of the skin after death.. The scarred skin was from the buttock, not the 1 abdomen.' ■•''•';..'..;',.. Dr. Wall, assistant physician at the London Hospital, said the scar was not ( an operation.scar.., ..'•'.: !'
