cent, to 3J per cent., and ou February 10 to 3 per cent. On March 17 it was raised, to 4 per cent., on Juno 2 it was reduced to 3J per cent., and on Juno 9 to 3 per cent On September 29 it wub .raised to 4 per cent., and on October 20 to 5 per cent., at which rato it now stands. Tho Dank of France rate was reduced from 3J to 3 per cent, on January 23, 1908, and remains at the latter figure. . Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable message, from their London friends, Messrs. ■ Sanderson, Murray and Co., regarding the sheepskin sales, dated October 20 :-r"Shcepskins, merino, market unchanged to an occasional slight decline.. Crossbred skins declined one farthing per lb." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London houee, under date October 20:—Sheepskins: Merinos and short and shorn crossbreds are Jd. per lb. lower; 'combing crossbreds, from id. to Jd. per. lb. lower. Tho Bank, of New Zealand has received the following cable advice from its London branch, dated October 20:—"All kinds of sheepskins are down par to 5 per cent. Current prices are: Sid. per lb. for fullwflollcd merino; sd. per lb. for short and shorn merino; lOd. per lb. for full-woolled crossbred, fine; 83d. per lb. for full-woolled. crossbred, coarse; 9d. per lb. for half to three-quartcr-woolled crossbred, fine;. Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cable from their London house, dated October 20:— Frozen . Meat.—Mutton: Firm, but prices unchanged. Lamb, id. per lb. higher. Beef, nominally Jd. per lb. lower. Frozen is not offered at the moment, as chilled is cheaper owing to heavy arrivals. Sheepskins: Sales have closed with a firmer tendency. As compared with the closing rates of last series, the market for ■ good combing merino is unchanged, other descriptions' being par to 3d. lower. Prices for crdssbred skins are Jd. lower. , . CANTERBURY GRAIN MARKET. "■ (By Telegraph—Press Association.! Chrlstchurch, October 21. . Private cable advice has been received to the effect that the London market has declined 6d. per. quarter. There is, however, practically no business being done by. shippers, who have filled their requirements, so the decline is not -likely to affect the local market.. Farmers who; have still wheat on hand aro not offering, and, until the millers come into the market again, transactions are likely to'be limited. No sales of any consequence are reported to have taken place during; the week. Oats are • very firm, as. was indicated by the prices paid at the auction sales of grain to-day. Potatoes have still furthor advanced, and| £8. ss. is now offered at country stations, :but it is stated that £1 more than this has been refused. All classes of butter have been reduced Id. per lb., the wholesale price- of factory butter now being 12d.
