Tlie dispute in tie 6addlory trade ir, to be discussed by a Court-of Conciliation next Tuesday at 10 a.m. The chief points at issue are the rate of wages and the piece log. The men desire that the wages should be increased from Is. per hour to Is. 3d., and that the piecework log should be abolished. A preliminary meeting of the council was held yesterday morning, Mr. P, Hally (Conciliation Commissioner) presiding. The assessors were Messrs. W. Wiggins, C. H. Wycherley (employers), D. ,W. Murray, W. Fin'dlay, and T. A. Rabe (employees). ' The Hon. J. N Barr also appeared on behalf of the employees. The employers' assessors desired that Mr. W. A. Grenfell should represent their side, and the representatives of the men stated that they had not received any official notice of the sitting of the council. "Say Au Kevoir, but not Good-bye!" In the House 'of Representatives last evening, during the discussion on the Defence Estimates, Mr. R. H, Rhodes (Ellesniere) referred to the fact that Lieutenant-Colonel Bauchpp, Commanding the Wellington District, had been selected for a course of training at Camberly Staff College, in England, and thqugh he (the speaker) had on several occasions bade that officer farewell, he was still in New Zealand. What was the reason ? ' The Prime Minister replied that a difficulty had arisen in connection with Lieut.-Colonel Bauchop's admission to the college. There was no room just now, and hundreds .of officers who had qualified for a course had been unable, for the same reason, to gain admission.
