PAHIATUA.

A meeting of the committee of the Pa-hiatua-Akitio Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in the office of the secretary (Mr. J., A.'Walsh) on Wednesday, when the programme as drawn up by' the sub-committee .was adopted; also the recommendation of the committee that tho sura of two,hundred' pounds be allocated for' prize money. It was decided to add a clause to. the dairy cow conditions, that the committee reserve the right to submit any cow in the competition to; a second test, and thai uDy cow varying her test by twenty per cent, will be disqualified unless some reason bo given for the variation to the satisfaction of the committee. The winning animal last year established probably a world's record with 691b. of:iiiilk, a 5.4 test, and 3.7261b. of butter-fat. lit' was resolved-that the first prize for the dairy cow competition be a silver cup to the value of eight guinea's and a cash prizo of three guineas. The secrotary reported the following donations to the prize fund:—Mr. 35.; Mr. T. P. Girdwood, ,£2 25.; .Mr. L.E. Hill, M 25.; Mr.'E.' S.' Holdilway, „fil Is.; Mr. R. J. M'Lennan,, 10s. Cd.; and Messrs. Charles Hill and Sons (Wellington) a trophy to the valuo of <s',2 2s. Messrs. J. Osbuinc-Lilly and J. B. Westlake have been nominated ;for tho position on the Borough Council rendered vacant by the.resignation of.the latter. Mr. AVestlako resigned as iv. protest against, a motion . carried at a recent council meeting that an adjournment' be made to enable councillors to attend tho closing service of the Anglican Mission. In deference to the wishes of a large number of the burgesses, he has allowed himself to be again nominated. Tho contest should be a keen one.
