The. Auckland Proposal. Then followed a long discussion on the proposal: of; the Auckland Association to alter the rule governing -'.the representation; '.of. the. ;afflliated ;; associations on the New: Zealand Council.. The Auckland Association's, proposal was supported by the Canterbury, and, Otago -Associations, and after hearing the delegates of these associations and -noting.-the -figures brought, forward, it. 1 Was quite clear that the ; proposal -if accepted ''.would.', place these associations ' (if supported by, one "of the smallest' associations) ; in' command of the voting power of. the council. Under Auckland's proposal, the. number of delegates or votes would 'be reduced from 52't0:26. Of -votes Auckland, Canterbury, and Otago would hold 12. The total number of members affiliated to these' associations is 4297, The total number affiliated 'to the New Zealand Association, is 937 G. If the three associations ..mentioned were; increased by 203- members (which'is ..sure to'i happen during the coming' season) they would get another two votes. •. -Remembering the special meeting of. the council held last July and: knowing the. sentiments, of certain associations on several -matters of importance, the result, if the, balance of power be held by three of the eleven associations', is obvious. "'. . ' '■ After i much' disoussion and many amendments a motion was accepted which provides for a total number of 4G dolegates or votes, on a basis of one vote for every, hundred up. to three hundred members, and an additional vote for ovcry'i addition three hundred members. Under these-'conditions the four chief associations hold the controlling votes, but no "three of them can outvote the remaining associations. . ■■,'.-. ■■-■■: Paid Secretary. The New Zealand Council has decided • to appoint a paid secretary and treasurer, and the expenses are to be-.borne by the : affiliated, associations.
