' ; ;;' : HALF-YEAELY. MEETING/ ■.:,, '■ ■The. half-yearly meeting of the .Wellington Building Trade Labourers' Union was' held on Wednesday evening. Office-bear-ers for the ensuing term were elected as foUow:-r-President,v Mr., E.. G. -Featonby; vice-president, Mr. C. -Anderson;; '. treas-: urer,. Mr. J.. .Burgess, (re-elected)jVsecre--tarj , , Mr. E.' Kennedy, (re-elected); trustees, Messrs. F. Lyons, andsG. Williams; Management Committee, Messrs. ■Lβ Len, shipton,: and Potazzi. . . ■-. : .:.,:■'■• V- ; . The committee stated in their .report that trade had been, fairly, good during the past six months. ; The. award had worked smoothly, only one test case and three of ; minor being taken to Court. During the half-year the union had placed 210 men in employment which showed plainly that employers were availing themselves more;frequently,<than in the past of the .facilities .which the union afforded them for obtaining suitable men.' It was hoped that, members, whoh out of work, .would report themselvesjo the sec-' retary. more frequently than" they had been inJho habit of doing. 'Some trouble had been taken to secure, on behalf of morabers, : sums to which ;they were' entitled . uiider the Componsation Act, but on several occasions members, foiling to report to the secretary that thoy had met with accidents had in consequence been hoodwinked into- accepting less luoncy than they : were legally entitled to! :• It was, or should be, well-known that insurance companies' methods' were' not of the cleanest, in getting, men to sign', off. their books before.they should do so.;
