MINISTERIAL STATEMENT.

: The Minister lias informed Mr. Wilfdrd,. in reply to a question as to what progress has been made in building electric cars for service on the Hutt railway, that the requirements - of . the Wellington-Hutt.railway, traffic, are-met by the suburban train services; already running on the line, and which will bo added to from time to time as circumstances necessitate; • It is the intention to make experiments with a viow to ascertaining: what form of motor-car is , best adapted for the requirements of 6ome of our lines which;serve 'sparsely-populated districts, and the necessaryarrange-' ments are in hand. So far, however, as the building of electric caw for' the Hutt railway vis : concerned,: the investigations made-into the matter indicate that at the present time it is inadvisable. to incur, ally expenditure in tho direction of building such vehicles.
