The Wellington Racing Club's Spring meeting commences at Trenthani to-day, and, if the weather is favourable, success should attend the ; -fixture".' Both the .-course and the lawn, are in such capital order at.the present time that it will be indeed regrettable- if the weather prevents :them from being seen at their best. In several of the events to-day large fields .are engaged, and: good sport may be reasonably expected. lTains leave Tβ Axo for, the racecourse at 10.34; aim. and 11 a.m., and-leave Lambton Station for the racecourse at 10.51; a.m., 11 a.m., 11.10 a.m., and 1.5 -pan. . .; . . ■.■•■■■■■■ . :.-■ The. principal events on to-day's card are- the.Wellesley.'Stakes, for two-year-olds, four furlongs, and the -Wei-. When training operations .commenced yesterday morning, '.the grtrand was ■everywhere white, as the result of • a heavy frost during the night. ■ The majority of. the horses were : . worked on-, the' outside of the course proper, which provided excellent going. Of the Wellington , Handicap candidates-that were on the track, Lady Medallist, with Train in the saddle, shaped remarkably well over a mile, running the last seven furlongs in lmin. 31 l-ssec.- This: was the best gallop' of the morning over the distance. Merriyonia, who was associated with; Diabolo over-a; mile; was.of ,no use; to the Stepniak:horse, who: finished-in .fine .style, and is undoubtedly verv well. Master: Laddo (H; Gray): galloped a . mile with., The Lark; and- beat him by several lengths in lmin.: 50sec. ' Wimmera (C. Brown) galloped a mile alone, the last seven furlongs taking MminV 34sec. Kopu (T. O'Brien), Birkdale (Buchanan), and Sir Tristram (F,. D. Jones) ran seven ; furlongs together..
