There would appear to bo considerable interest in the proposals of \ the Government to instal electric motive power,in various parts of'the Dominion, but, judging by the tone of the meeting of the local Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon, a good deal more information than has yet been placed before them b/ the Government is '_ required by the public. As • was pointed out at the meeting.. of t the chamber ■ yesterday, it■'-. is easy enough to say.that so many: hundreds of horso power can be generated. at a certain general cost, but the question isi What is it going to. cost the consumer? Opinions differed a good deal at the meeting, and it was only oiithe casting 'vote _of the chairman that a motion was • carried favouring the scheme propounded by the Government. Even this, however, was 'qualified., by a request for more information. ; .' '

Correspondence: 'was read from the Education Department, stating that the, current capitation.had been, passed for payment, also the first progress payment of £770 in connection with the erection of the new high school. A'large rjumber of the pupils were working for various public examinations. It was deoided to hold the breaking-up ceremony on, either December .IS or. .December 14, and. to "ask Sir Joseph.. Ward to;speak, at the furibtion. "The report 'of'.the director of the' Technical,'... School., showed that • the number of .attendances at the vari- ( ous classes' was. 709, :as : against. 599 for tho same term last year.
