MINERS AND TUBERCULOSIS.

V, By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright. ■v .Perth, October.: 17. .:' Dr. Onmpston, who was appointed to investigate pulmonary, disease; amongst miners, has sent in a report covering the past ten years. Tho'report states that tuberculosis on; tho lungs has. steadily increased, , while pneumonia has decreased. Amongst 1085 minors examined, 33 per cont. of tho machine workers were suffering from miners' phthisis, against 7'per cent, of tho non-mnchino miners, 3.por cent, of the truckers, - and SI per cent., of the dry-treatment workers. Lung tuberoulosis was present in 28 eases.' ' Tuberculosis is described in tho report as an infectious disease rather than- an industrial disease. Measures for'. its eradication should not stop at oxolusion of infected persons from mines,'- but should inolude segregation of tubcroulpus persons who come into close association with miners. Phthisis was solely due to" inhalation of mineral dust.
