A destructive fire occurred at threa o'clock this morning, wtentho local irait' - way engine-shed wasburned: to tho ground. A gale .was-raging all night, and the- structure, being wood,- v was - • quickly, demolished' before , any ■.efforts could bo made- to remove the engines. . The brigade ~was powerless to. do any - more than' prevent the . spread of the : .flames to buildings near by.. Indeed, : ifc • . was fortunate that.• .the. wind was from ■*: '; the west,- and ' aot-from the opposite , direction, as, in tho .latter alternative, it is highly probable . that a number of tho main. street; shops, forty- yards away/ would have been destroyed.
