PROPOSED CORONATION TRIP.

VIEWS OF MR. MASSEY. \:r

Questioned by • a Dominion reporter on Saturday a&.tt his opinion, New Zealand should be represented, at the Coronation, Mr. Massey. (Leader of the Opposition) said that he presumed that before the session came to an end the Prime -Minister/would- make a statement on the subject to tho Houso. -. "Until theni" continued Mr. Massey; "wo do not know, definitely :what is intended : but,' so far as the Opposition Party- is. concerned,' we have considered the question generally, and while wo think Now Zealand "should bo 'properlyand adequately represented both at the Imperial Conference and the Coronation, we- do not agree with: the . suggestion that it. is. necessary, to send eight, or. ten Ministers and members to England for tho purpose. ' To do so would mean postponing next session of Parliament, and to postpone , .next, session would mean postponing the general election, which, under ordinary . circumstances, will take place iii November of next year. Wo can do'what is right without putting the' people of ; this country to unnecessary expense and inconvenience. Neither tho session nor the date of tho election should: Be interfered with."

Asked' whether lie would attend tho Coronation, -Mr. Massey said that ho had not yet been invited; but he considered that, in any case,, his duty in the meantime was here.

' Would you like to bo present? quoried the reporter. >

"That is another _ question hardly worthy of consideration ' "at " present," -was Mr. Massey's reply.
