RED-LETTER DAY AT MANAWATTJ (By Telegraph.—Special Corrcepondent.) Palmerston, October ,16.

Saturday, October 15/ will, probably remain as . a red-letter day in tho memory of Manawatu golfers. It was ; a lovely day for play, and tho coromony of prize-giving went off with a swing. Everyone seemed sorry that the coinpetitions wero over, and soveral of tho keenest players have asked that arrangements should bo mado to cutji course to enable play, to be continued during tho summer. The mixed foursomes competition was conducted under a sealed handicap, and, after all the scores had been handed in, there was an animated discussion round the board as to. who tho likely winners would be. Miss Sylvia Abraham and A- Barraud, Miss Wray and C. Louisson, and Miss. D. Waldegravo and Charles Wilson being the popular selections. found,' however, that tho favourites had not been placed, .though-they wore very close up. The winners wore Miss Humphreys and H. C. Mellsop, who re-, turned the. very good card .of ,93, making them 73 net, their handicap being,2o. Miss D. AValdegrave and C. .Wilson .. (of...Ra-ngitikei) . distinguished themselves by winning the golden spoon presented for tho best score sent in. Mr. C. Wilson expressed -himself, as being delighted with tho links, ajid his intention is to go up as-a .member next season. A very large gathering assembled for afternoon tea,' aV good many non-golfing ..visitors , having specially conie down for the occasion. After tea, the president called on .Mrs.\\A.. E. Russell to present tho prizes, and Mrs. ;L. , A.. Abraham and Mrs. L. A. Mellsop : (tlio ladies' captain and secretary) were kept busy picking out and handing ; up. to Mrs; Russell tho numerous prizes for - the. ladies' events. The - men's prizes wore their presented, A. Barraud taking (for -the third time) the Club Championship Cup 'and (fqr the '- time) the Barraud a.nd Abraham Cup, C. Adams took the.M'Hardy Cup for the season's medal competitions, and IL N. Watson the Plunket trophy for the season's bogeycompetitions. AV.. . E.', Bendall secured, both prizes for the junior season's, competitions. The. prizes /presented by the president for tho -foursomes'; competition were then presented to Miss Humphreys and H. C. Mellsop and Miss D. Waldegrave aiid Charles Wilson. Three hearty cheers having been given for Mrs. A.E.
