Palmerston North, October 14.

Mrs, L. A. Abrahan presided over the annual meeting of the St. John Ambulance Nursing Division and tl» District Nurse Society last night. The report of the Nursing Division showed that the membership had increased during the year from 96. to 133, which was considered highly satisfactory, and during tho same period 150 cases had .been attended. The statement of receipts and expenditure showod a balance to credit of £42 lis. lOd. Tho report of tho" District Nurse Society showed that the nurse had made 1169 visits to 71 patients; During the year 18 births had been attended, while ten death's had occurred. The receipts for ■the year (including balance brought forward £110) totalled' £263, and the expenditure £167, leaving a credit balance of £95. The two branches were merged into one, under the name of the St. John Ambulance Nursing Guild. The Mayor and' Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Nash) were elected patroness and president, respectively, Mesdames L. A. Abraham, F. M'Donald, and J. D. R. Hewitt, and Sub-Inspector O'Donovan and Mr. J. A. M'Leavy being elected lion, members of the committee, the rest of tho committee to be elected at the first meeting of the guild. Medallions were presented by .the Mayor to Helen Schwartz, Jessie Cherritt," Nellie Glanville, Olive Edwards, Kate Fitzgerald, Sarah Hannah, Amy B. Heaton, Annie Morgan, .Nellie Eockstrow, ' Ella/Kerslake, Alice M. Mowle'm,. Florence E. Collinson, Joan M'Gregor, Anna Forster, and" Edith M'Dowall, all of whom had passed the first aid examinations.

A very heavy gale of wind, with occasional-rain, blew all -through last night j and trees aiid fences suffered a considerable amount, "of damage.

At the monthly meeting of the Hospital Board yesterday, the Mayor mentioned the. matter of the proposed consumptive; ;annexe for. women at.-the Hospital. He said that he had : had a conversation with Dr. Valintine on the question, .and that official had suggested that the board should have plans prepared showing , extensions to the Hospital up to' 100 Beds,' so as to" be -pared for the future.
