At a- meeting of the Tecently-formed Astronomical section of tho Wellington Philosophical: Society last night- the president, Mr. C. P. Powles, gave an address on the study of astronomy.' After a rapid glance over twenty centuries of scientific progress; from 150 n.'c, when Hipparchus made his catalogue of tho stars, down to the present- day, the speakor (aided by lantern slides, _ which were manipulated by Mr. C. E. Adams) gave a clear account of some of the most remarkable results of telescopic investigation. A vote of tihnnks to the president was carried by acclamation, on.the motion of tho Rev.
