NELLIE STEWART SEASON,
Paul Koster's romantic play, "When] Knighthood was in Flower/' again presented before a largo audience at the Opera Houso last evening. Miss Stewart's mercurial .performance as the wilful, headstrong Mary Tudor is a decidedly clover and attractive study', which tones up tho wholo'play. Indeed sho' is not off tho stago for more than, fiyo minutes at'any ti'raoi '. arid tho magnetism of her personality is a valuable factor in measuring .up the value of the play. Good work is also done by Mr. Bcatty as Brandon, Mr. Eardloy Turner as Henry- VIII, and Mr. J.B. Atholwood a-s Buckingham. The production is staged on a scakV of magnificonco, which fitly accords with, tho character, of tho times, and tho dresses are, interesting, in that they are exact reproductions of those worn in the reign of England's most-married' monarch. ■ . ._ t The second production of tho season is announced for Wednesday evening next,/.when' Mr;.. J. M. Barrio's celebrated comedy' "What Every; Woman Knows," 'which has the' reputation of being ono of. tlio popular playwright's most successful, efforts, wffl be presented for the first time in Wellington... Thestory of Maggie Wylio's successful managing, of John Shand, the young Scotchman., -with no sense of humour, but witli a very definite ambitft>% scored a distinot triumph' both in Lonr don and Now York, and recently in Auckland.
