C, Hudson, vicar of Sutton Cheney, Leicestershire, was guilty of immorality in contracting a marriago after,the Scotch fashion while his wife was liv- * ing.
An English paper of August 27 writes as follows of Mr. Hudson:— The Rev. E. C. Hudson, the vicar of „ ' Sutton Cheney, near ' Nuneaton, who was inhibited on the ground that he , had contracted an irregular "marriage," his lawful wife being alive, was ' locked out of his church last Sunday. ' , His reply was to preach among the tombstones. The services in the church were conducted, by order of the Bishop of Peterborough, by another clergyman. Precautions had beeii taken to- prevent Mr. Hudson from 1 gaining possession of the church. The old locks were all re- c - - moved and new ones fixed, and'police- *" men were stationed at the- main entrance to prevent disorder. The , inhibited vicar marched at tho head of a crowd of curious.sightseers to a giant yow tree in the churchyard, and there, ' standing on a chair, he went thrpugfi . . a form of morning prayer, winding up with a sermon. < ' ■ <
