PAYMENT OF MEMBERS. By Telegraph—Press Associatlon-Oopyriirht. London, October 6. Mr. G. N. Barnes, M.P. for Blackfriars (Glasgow), chairman of the Parliamentary Labour Party, speaking at Manchester, .said that if tho Government would give facilities for tho discussion of a resolution on the Osborne caso at the autumn session, and pledge itself to introduce a Bill after tho next general election, he did not see why tho members of the Labour Party should not pledgo themsolvos to act with tho Government ponding its passago. ■ NEWSPAPER COMMENT. London, October 6. Tho ''Daily Chronicle," commenting on the political situation, says there is little hope in political circles of an agreement being arrived at by tho Veto Conference, The "Morning, Tost" regrets that there is no alternative to the Asquith Ministry till tho Unionist leaders know their own minds. Tho "Standard" denounces Mr. Balfour's inexplicable silence in regard to Imperial defence.
