September—No. 1 level, .eastern end, extended flfvy feet. In the last 30 fcet.tho reef track has been.running:on a southerly course, but it ■ is now turning eastward. During the extension of this level a solid body of. ore, 25 feet long, was passed through,' varying from a. few inches t0.6 feet in width:. This, ore, .which corresponds: to the ■ old eastern reef in No. 9 level, has now. cut. out, but another 20 feet of driving should out the new easternblock. No. 10 level rise i 6 now at a height of 91 feet, and there yet remains 21 feet of rising to connect i with the western winze. Seventy feet.up,' the.'western reef was cut, ,at which point five feet of solid .stone, was met, but this, has narrowed to three-feet in width; This stone is of-vory good.quality. The extension of the western end of No. 10 level has also been commenced, and the western reef expected to bo cut in about 25 feet of drive. No. 9 level: The. western winze has been cleaned out, and sunk to a vertical depth of 8 feet. In the stopes between' Nos. 8 and 9 levels is a, small leader,. from ' which 20 .tons of good- , quality, stoho has been obtained. . From development work, in No. 10 lovel and rise, 200 tons of oro has been obtained, and this; with the 20 tons won from No: 9 level 6topes, was crushed for a return of 3<150z. 15dwt. smelted gold. 250 tons of sand were cyanided for 78oz. 3dwt. of bullion.- The total value is approximately £1600. . The abovo return averages (without the cyanide), £6 55..9 d. per. ton. Concentrates on hand amount t0,25 tons 3cwt. 991b. '. Thero is • a general' improved feeling in mining circles, here. It is stated that a reef 200 feet in length and 6 feet in average width hsw been cut in a prospecting lease taken up adjoining the Wealth of Nations mines. Surface outerop samples show .gold. 'Good reports arc current regarding the Progress mines.
