lFrom Our Special-Correspondent.) Mastcrton, October! 6.... At the quarterly meeting of the' Mas* terton Fire Board:to-day the annual report of the Superintendent, of.Tire Brigades was. received. This showed,, inter alia, that there had been a smaller number of fires than in previous years. A recommendation was made that the fire brigade and fire police bo amalgamated under one head, as it was considered that a body of. 30.mep was quite sufficient -to deal with all fires in the town. The board decided to take ho action in the matter. It was decided to open the new fire station during the present month, and to invite the Hon. D. Buddo, Superintendent Hugo, and the officials of fire brigades in other districts to bo present.
A match was flown from Wellington today by the Mastcrton Homing Pigeon Club, and resulted in Mr, .W., Boaro's Bectraal being first, with Mr; A. Miller's Battleaxo second, and Mr. W. Drake's Sky Tail third..
At a meeting of the . St! Matthew's Cricket Club to-night officers were elected, and it was decided -, to enter two teams for the junior championship.'
