THE WHAKAIHUWAKA BLOCK.
. The Minister for Lands,,, replying to a question asked by. Mr. Pearce, M.P. forPatea, as to whether/he.will. at once"take the necessary steps to; open up and offer for selection'the .17,000 "acres of: good Crown land at present trying idle, partof theWhakaihuwaka'Blook, situated between ' the' Wangamii',', and , Waitotara Rivers, and whether-he- will endeavour to complete the'purchase" of the balance of the block, • 46,700 ■'.' acres, . from the Natives, states that for„the past two years surveyors have been:" at work surveying the land in question",' ■and' three surveyors are now working with;'a to laying out the necessary.irqads and sectionising the area,'but owing'to the rough nature of the. country ■ great care has to be exercised in carrying out the necessary work. Steps are_ being taken to open the land at'the earliest possible opportunity.
