ST. JAMES'S, LOWER HUTT.
The'mission at St. James's, Lower Htiltj Tiegan on Saturday evening, the missioner being Canon Stuart, assisted by the Rev. J. Wilkinson,.of New Plymouth. . On Sunday thefe was a celebration of the Holy Communion at 8 a.m. at which abont'CO persons Communicated. Tho two missioners officiated. The leading thought of tho address was that of drawing nearer to .God. At 11 a very large congregation attended. Tho leading thought of the missiouer's address was that of the necessity of continuous divine assistance. In the afternoon a meeting for. men alone was', held at 3 o'clock, at which, after a e.hprt'service, led, JiY. the Eey.
J. Wilkinson, Canon Stuart gave a very impressive address At 7 p.m. the ■ Church was crowded, every nvailablo place being occupied with chairs the congregation being variously estimated at from 350 to 400 persons. The niissioner's address was upon spiritual blindness, the different kinds of which wore illustrated ; by the particular in,stances of'.our Lord's giving sight to the blind, narrated in the Gospels. The missipner announced the services to bo held in continuance of the mission. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday the same procedure will be observed,. viz., at 3.30 p.m. a meeting for ehildism in: St. James's schoolroom,. conducted, by thp Rev. J. Wilkinson; at -4 p.m., an address on Bible study, in the church; at 7.15 a gathering in the church for intercessory prayer; at 7.45, -mission 'hymns will be sung;,and at 8 the mission service , will begin,, and will be. followed by an "after meeting." The mission;will bo resumed on Sunday, and closed ;with, a Thanksgiving service on Monday evening. • At Christ Church, Taita, the Rev.' J. Wilkinson conducted ah evening service at 7 p.m., the subject: of the address heing: "The Potter and the Clay.". Aβ other engagements call him away, after Thursday, the notice for missionary ser-,. vice on Sunday next has had to be countermanded, but it is;expected that another missioner. will be found for the evening service at. 7p/m.
