. London, October 3. , The American Ambassador; Mr. Whitelaw E«id, in opening the Lutoa Public Library, Bedfordshire, stated that Hi. Andrew Carnegie'had given .£10,187,000 towards municipal libraries, and that his total benefaotions'now;"amount to over £3o,ooo,ooo.; : ■■■■■.',■' . Two years ago Mr. Carnegie's gifts were estimated at over .£30,000,000, of which over was stated to have beendistributed in the ten years"-preceding. The. number of libraries founded'by Mr. Carnegie was.• then, put at 1300.
