MISSION AT PETONE.
The congregation of St. Augustine's Church, Petbne, held an. enjoyable garden party-at Mr.. W. .Foster's grounds'on Saturday afternoon)';to welcome the,Key.'j C. T. Koran, who is conducting the ten days' mission in Petqne.; ; "Various, outdoor games, were played,, and musical items were . rendered by '. the Petono Orchestra. An address of welcome to the missioner - was delivered by.' the .. vicar (the ,Bev. ;J.' : .D. Kussell), and speeches ;were also given.by clergymen of other denominations. ,-Alternbon tea was 'pro- : yided by. tho ladies of .the' congregation. -. A. reception service was,' held,at ,St.' Augustine's ■ Church jbn Saturday evening. The vicar conducted tho service, after' which the missioner addressed the conon'the objects of the mission, and pointed out how his hearers 'might either help or hinder theso : objects; Yesterday morning and evening ' the services were conducted by the',Kev. C. T. Horon, there being large congregations at each service. ') The missioner; laid special .stress'on' the fact that: many people who attend church and profess Christianity act in : their .daily life ; in such a way that hinders God's Wqrk.-Ho did not mean that the argument of .those who' urged that the conduct of-certain professed 'Christians' repulsed'-them from, the faith; which was 'justifiable, ''but, nevertheless; it was a fact that somo of tho worst exponents of Christianity were' Christians" themselves.,:' . . ... '■>' ■•■. Tho mission will continue until October.
