I - It appears that the arrest of the men at Dunedin and Cliristchurch in connection with the'jewellery robbery at Grey- ; mouth' was partly due to information obtained by the local detective staff. Working in conjunction with Detective Miller, of Cliristchurch, Detectives Abbott and .Mason, of Wellington, supplied certain particulars which led up to'the search of the steamer Kini at Lvttelton, and the subsequent arrests at Dunedin. Bathers in'the habit of swimmjng in the Evans Bay portion of the harbour will bo interested to learn that an octopus of fairly large size'was caught in tho bay on Saturday afternoon. It appears that two young men named G. Little and G. Forbes were shifting some rails in connection with the launching of, a yacht, when the former noticed,; just where ho was standing, close inshore, a long arm writhing about. He made a grab at the anii, which caught hold'of his hand, and lie then saw a largo octopus, clinging hold to the rails. After a good deal of struggling with'hammers-and knivee, the dreaturo was eventually landed by means of a boat-hook, and killed. Several farms are advertised for sale in this issue by Messrs.
