FOOTBALL. ST.. JAMES CLUB, During an -interval in the St. James Football Club's ''social" at St. Peter's schoolroom; last night, Mr, Kitto (pre-, sident). spoke, a lew words regarding tlio achievements of the .different- teams during tlio past season. Considering that tho club had only been playing senior football for four seasons ho said that the senior fifteen had every reason to bo proud of its position as runnorup for the championship. Tho team that had hcaten them had beqn struggling to; get to the top of tlio list for years. St. James had dono remarkably well to beat , the championship win» ers in the: Charity Clip match. Mr. Kitto; ■in conclusion; remarked that thoro ,was no ■ doubt that tho success of the olub was. due in a, large measure, to' the outhusiasm: of', njembers. He' hoped that they would stick to. their training until,j they won tlio senior chanipionsiiip. :. TRAMWAYS FOOTBALL \ To celebrate tho occasion of winning the Wednessday Rugby ohampwnship, the Wellington Tramways Football Club held a dinner and. smoke concert at Murdoch's, Cuba Street, last evening. The Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P.) presided, and the gathering- included a largo number of members and friends; The chairman was supported by Councillors Fletcher, Hinclmarsh,' and Fitzgerald, there also being present Messrs. G. E. James, M. Cable/G. M'Coll, J. Callaghan, D. M'Gillivray. J. Sullivan, and J., Sweeney.The toast listwas'/'a lengthy one, the principal being.. "The King,' ';''Wellington . City : Council,' '■ "Tramways Management," "Rugby JJnion," and "The Wellington Tramways Football Club." The various toasts were' interspersed With ~ songs and recitations,., encore's' .being numerous. During the course of the evening thechiirmah,, oh_behalf. of. the club, . presented: H.G. Bowe, . captain of tho team, with a handsome marble clock, .suitably inscribed, oh tho occasion of his approaching marriage. : A medal'was' presented ;hy : Mr.-: M'Gilhvray to the beat back (A. Clark), also , one by. Mr. Fpivnes; to . the best forward V(H. G. Bowo). : The function was brought to (i olose with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." • , ■ '- ■ : - -
