LOOKING TO THE FUTURE.

A" MAYOR VENTURES TO PROPHESY. Some sweeping propheoies as to the future of Wellington's water traffic were ventured by to Mayor .of Miramar at the meeting of the Borough Council last evening. In the course of ths_next fifteen or twenty years, Mr. Bi'odio declared,' it would- not be to the interest' of tho people of Wftllington to have , the ' forry wharf at;the King's Whirf as was now proposed. During the last few years there ; had been several" harbour accidents due to fog, and some way of avoiding'them would have to be found. He ventured to prophesy that, in fifteen or twenty years tho bis ferry wharf would be situ-, atod at Lyall Bay. This might seem visionary, but it had to be remembered that in a few vcars Picton would be the terminal point of the South Island Main Trunk line. It would then be ,'connected with Wellington by a fast line, probably of twenty-five-knot steamers. Some provision would then have to be made' 60 ■ that the ferry boats would not waste time in crawling up the harbour during fogs.
