The estimated cost/of the .Wellington. Road'extension,.: which was not .put .to the voting test,'.'.was >£6000;. The difference in 'expenditure as/ between 'the two: extension' routes is over -£20,000, an expenditure, 1 considers the ,'. committee, "worthy.'of the deep consideration of ratepayers, not .oplyjof. The-annual dinner of the Wellington If arbour Board's' staff is to be held at the Hotel Windsor to-morrow week;' Regulation of bathing-dress on the beaches under its control was briefly considered 'last evening by the Miramar Borough Council. Tne subject was raised, in a letter from a ratepayer, who advocated strict regulation, in order that women and children might not be hindered froni visiting the beaches. The council decided to enforce the same regulations as were in vogue during last bath--ing season. .. A new record was: established at the produce markets yesterday, when new, potatoes were sold at the .rate of 7Jd. per lb., which meant <£70 per ton. . A "refresher" course for staff sergeant instructors of the Junior Cadot Department will commence in Wellington on Monday'nest, and will last for a week. The course will cover all branches of the instructional side of the Cadet Department, and will embrace such topics as free gymnastics, correspondence and record systems, squad ' drill, signalling, miniature range practice, knotting,- etc. Physical drill work will be taken at the Y.M.C.A.. Gymnasium, and. lectures at the Hutt County Council-office on Lambton Quay. At last evening's meeting of the management committee of the.. Wellington Cricket Association a letter was received from Mr. Len. M'Kenzie suggesting that the south-eastern portion of the Karori Cemetery should be utilised for the purpose of a cricket ground. "At the present time," wrote Mr. M'Kenzie, "this is not utilised for burial purposes, and with the modern methods it is quite probable chat it would not bo required for . the next sixty years, and in the-meantime Could servo, the double purpose of a playground, and be a help to the tramway revenue." The .chairman said that he id not think the proposal entered into the. range of practical politics for this season. A good bit of work would have to be done.. Something might be done in association with the Rugby Union. The letter was received. . ' The details of a-loan which the Hutt Borough Council is to raise by special order appear in this week's Gazette. The amount is .£20,300, which is proposed to be allocated .as follows:—Hutt Bridge Rebuilding Loan, 1903, £2500; Council Chambers Loan,' 1903, .£1000; Roads,' Streets, and Bridges Loan, 1903, i! 8000; Roads, Streets, and Bridges Loan, 1901, ■£6000; and '.. Recreation Ground : Loan, ,£2BOO. For the. repayment of the loan a special rate. of 2-7 a. in the £ on all rateable property in the Hutt Borough is to be struck. .' ■ •' .
