Mr. W. H. E. Wanklvn, Christchurch.". Several important items have been cabled from Australia during the week, including the .scratching of Equitas and Crucinella, and a more important item' still is. the '.withdrawal of Prince Foote froni the Caulfield Cup. For- several weeks now Prince Foote has - been favourite for the; Caulfield : race,, and his recent, success in; ..the Chelmsford' Stakes caused him ! to still, further harden in the betting.: Whatever is the cause of his Withdrawal it will bo a big surpriso to backers. ■ . .'' 111-fortune seems to pursue tho NewZealand, horses that have gone to Australia this season, and now- tho news, has' come that Crucinella is suffering from ' a cold, so that it, is unlikely. that this brilliant, mare-will bo able to show her; form 'in ' Australia. Whether' anything is amiss with Equitas has not transpired yet,, but it would appear that sho . is. not: herself, as she:- llias been scratched * for Saturday's racing.; About the only item of-really good news that reached us this season from Australia about the New Zealand horses was that Master Soult so quickly, recovered from his accident.
