VILLAGERS' LIVES SPOILED.

London, September 23. , The Queen has expressed sympathy with a petition from ton thousand two hundrod cottago women of Great Britain beseeching relief from motor-cars, which they say have made their lives a misary. Their children are always in danger, things in the cottages. are ruined by the dust, and the rest of the petitioners and their families is spoiled. : It is suggested that motors 'should b» compelled to travel 6lowly through villages, but the petition points out; "We are only, poor people, and the majority of tha persons using motor-cars will not account to us, We appeal to your Ma> jesty to us® your great infiuenoe."
Dr. iVemantle. the medical officer of health for > Hertfordshire,- in his annual report last year, oalled attention to serious dangers to health which may result from the road dust occasioned in large clouds by motor-cars. ""It is well known," ho observed, "that stonecutters and those working in other dusty, trades are peculiarly liable to stonecutters' phthisis' and 'silicosis.'
