Earle,' entertained; at dinner at ; the Windsor Hotel on Saturday night tho"'literary•'staff.-'of. the paper and the heads of the other departments. There were a good many . toasts, amongst which were "The 'Editor," .-"The Dominion," and "The -Directors." Themanager, Mr. Blanton,' announced that tho great growth ,of ( the . paper had been accompanied by increasingly bet-; ter results, 1 and had culminated . .that, "day in. an. issue which,from;.his'point : of*view,' was .the best ; /toY : date, and',' from- the same point .of view,},the best issue in the records of the New Zealand daily press. The editor was presented by nis guests with/a memento ,in- the shape of'an.aid to successful angling. A pleasant' inoideiiit of .the ;music-and-story end of the evening was the receipt of a' message of fraternal grating and congratulation from the literary'staff of the "Evening Post," and the dispatch of a reciprocal message to that . staff,, which; was. simultaneously engaged in the offices of farewell to Mr. Arthur Geddis, who has joined tho "Freo Lance." Pedley, M.R.C.S., dental surgeon, of that city. The Wellington district branch of the New Zealand Educational,lnstitute nominated, for election in January next, Mr. O. D.. Flamank (Otago), for the office of president of the institute; Mr. H. A. Parkinson (Wellington), has nominated for ; the office of' secretary, and Mr. Geo. Flux (Wellington), as a non-official member of the executive committee, ..' * Mr. James Muldoon, who is relinquishing tho management of- Messrs.. J. C. Spedding and Co.'s Oamaru branch, to take up a position in the Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's "Wellington office, was (says the "Oamaru Mail") entertained by a number of business men at the North Otago Club on Wednesday last. The general esteem; which Mr. Muldopn is held in Oamaru was demonstrated by the representative nature of the gathering, many of tho leading men of all classes ! and interests being present. : . i The Rev. W. E. Lambert has resigned the pastorate of tho Ashburton Baptist Church, and intends- leaving that town in three months'; time. ■ Mr. M.'Laraoy, secretary to the New Zealand Shearers' Federation, left for the south on Saturday night. Mr. J. M. Davidson, headmaster of the Moniingtbn School, Dunedin, and a member of the Teachers' Superannuation Board, has been granted a year's leave of absence, during which he intends.. to visit England and ■ the Continent. / Mr. and Mrs. J). Kempfthorne left last week by the TJlimaroa- for Sydney, to catch the Orient steamer Osterley for Ceylon and Bombay. They expeot to be away six , months. ,
