ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FELL PROM A SCAFFOLD
PAINTER FATALLY INJURED
; A serious accident occurred yesterday afternoon- at the ,'Princess Tlieatro Hotel. Lome and Tory Streets, whereby a painter 'named' James Barron received fatal injuries. The hotel lias been undergoing repairs and painting, and Barron, who was in tho employ of'.Messrs. R. and.E., Tingey, was working on a scaffolding' lit the -back .of tho house. Exactly whsifc happened is not ascertainable, for no .0110 appears to have seen tho "unfortunate ■man 1 , fall, but; ho was discovered oh tho ground about 4 p.m. Ho was: then unc.onscious, and in a very critical condition. Ho had evidently fallen from the. scaffolding, 16ft. high, and struck a shed in falling. Dr. Begg, who. was summoned; did all that was possible in the circumstances., and the patient was then' removed' to the hospital by Constable Glynn. An operation was performed soon .after,' but -tho patient succumbed about an hour la tor. As fat as can-be ascertaiiied tho. deceased was a single man, oo years of age, . .and . resided;. in .Taranaki Street. Ho has a brother-residejit in tho city. An inquest will bo.held' at the hospital to-day. ' : : INQUEST AT THE HOSPITAL. V "Yesterday afternoon the Coroner,' Mr. W.„ It. Haseldm, S.M., lield' an.: inquest at the Wellington Hospital' concerning the death of Mrs/Teresa Sims, who had died at the . institution tho' same morning/ ■ V 1: -V _-. Dr. Hardwicke Smith, Medical Superintendenfy stated that deceased was admitted to the hospital on the. night. of September 8, suffering'from a -very bad' : cbnipound..fracture of the left leg. She was operated on. at once. The bono was set', and the patient progressed' favourably - for : sis, days:. • She' then, developed 'delirium arid bronchitis. On September ■21 the wound showed signs of- mortification,; and it became necessary to amputate, the limb. ' This was done, but 'after the operation,- the bronchitis became worse,, and she died at 3.30 • a.m.'.yesterday.- ' . The; immediate cause of death was acute- bronchitis, but, the' primary cause'., was the fractured -limb and the' complications that j set.in; ■■ - Robert Joseph". Sims, labourer, husband of..the deceased, - stated -that he, resided with .his' jvife",at ,6, Leivisvillo Terrace. A FRACTURE. ' ■ A married man named Arthur Kirtlp, a wharf labourer, :aged 52;- and residing -in Molesworth Street) was Vadmittea to the hospitalilast evening suffering-frbin a broken ;ankle. He had climbed a trco to gather clematis,,;when jthi branch gave away,, and he fell to tho ground and 'sustained .the ■fracture. v .>! '.
