V.; THE WORLD'S WHEAT CHOP, . .' ; J. E. Beerbohm's "Evening Corn Trade I List,": August 12, in a prelimianry estimate places the world's wheat, crop Jor the now season at . 436,500,000 Quarters—a,. decrease of-, about: nineteen' million quarters as compared l with last season, but" ah increase .of nearly 371' million quarters as compared with two years ago. The totals .for six'seasons according to this authority, compare as follow:— ■ Quarters. 1905 '414,735,000 . 1906 431,955,000 ■■:■■'■ ■■;■ 1907 396,775,000 . ' 1908 -. 399.065,000 . 1909 ....: 455,520,000 ' ' , 1910 ...:.......'....' 436;500,0C0 " Amongst the principal variations to account for the decrease of 19' million quarters this season are the decreases, in ltussia, France, and North America, and, on, tho other hand, the increases iu Hungary, -Bumania, pad Bulgaria, and India, The

Eussian crop is estimated at 73,000,000 quarters, against 97,600,000 Quarters last year. A, crop of 75,000,000 Quarters is, however,, a full average, and would, of itself, enable largo exports to bo'- made, > apart from tlio fact that a considerable stock of old wheat lias been carried over at the turn of tho soasons. The French crop is placed at 36,000,000 Quarters, against. 43,500,000 quarters last year, and this falling off will load to several million quarters being imported during tho now, season. In North America, the crop in the United States was estimated on the basis of the August official report at 82,500,000 quarters, against 92,000,000 quarters; whi'.o the Canadian crop is. expected to yield 14,000,000 ■ quarters, against 21,000,000 quarters. The total-de-crease in North America is thus 16,600,000 ((Uartors, and shipments across the Atlantic can only bo expected to be moderate, after making allowance for .the requirements of the large population now to bo fed in America. .Tho Indian crop, harvested nearly six months ago, is 44,600,000 quarters, or an increase of over 9,000,000 quarters, but so far the shipments liavo not been very heavy. Tho Hungarian crop. 23,000,000 quarters, iB 7,000,000 Quarters larger than last year's. The Rumanian crop is "it at 14,000,000 quarters against 7,000,000 quarters; and tho Bulgarian crop at 7,500,000 Quarters, against 6,000,000 qnartors, large supplies thus being available for shipment from' tho Danube. The Argentine crop, to bo harvested at the end of the year, is estimated provisionally at 21,500i000. quarters, againßt 16,500,000 quarters last season,.or an increase of 5,000,000 quarters; and the Australasian crop at '11.0C0.0P0. quarters, against 12,000,000 Quarters. Both ■;U,h the Argentine..Eepnblic. and_ with Australasia, however, the possibilities of the weather during the, remainder' of tho . year. have ■ to be taken into account. . - Customs ..revenue, collected at the port of Wellington yesterday amounted to £6418 4s. 4d. -...•,;■■■■■".;■ ■•'■.■.'•;•■'•■ -Y.\-. -.•■',':"•■'; Y'-". ,' TAIiLOW.
