WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. ; A meeting of, the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union 'was held last night. . There were present: Messrs. J. Burns (in tho chair), W. Perry, A. B. Wilson, W. Hardham, J. Sweeney, E. 0. Hales, J. F. O'Sullivan, and W. G. Talbot (secretary). Permission was granted to tho Wellington Railways football Club to send a team to Christchurch, to play tho Christchurch 'Railway Club as a "cu'rtainruisor" to the inter-Island fixture .on Saturday next. A letter was received from the Southland Rugby Union, thanking the union for the treatment extended to'tho Southland team during its stay in Wellington. Tho Wellington South District Criclcct Club wrote asking if the union could seo its way to reduco the amount (i!l2 125.) owing by the club to tho union for rent of practice pitches... The secretary of tho club stated that they were in a- poor, financial position, and an offer, of .£G Gs, was made in settlement.' It was decided to reply that the union co\ild. not consider . the question of reducing tho account. 'i'lio chairman stated that he understood Mr. Bennett , had recently had to enter the hospital again. On the motion of Mr. A.-B. Wilson, it was decided to play, the A backs and B forwards against flie B backs and A forwards on October 1, the charge to be Is. and grandstand free. The. whole of the profits to be handed to the Benefit Committee. Mr. John Langhton, hon. secretary of t)ie J. Bennett Benefit Committee," wrote the attention of the Rugby Union Committee to the'fact' that Mr. Bennett, an. .old representative -player,, who .was suffering' from blood-poisoning, was still a long' way, from recovery. The sum of •SSI 10s, had ;been collected from foot, bailers and tho general - public, and handed to Mr. Bennett.' Messrs. Bell, Gully, Bell, and Myers wrote asking tho union to- forward , a cheque' of in settlement of claim by Mr. W, Houldsworth, for damage to his premises, 48 Waipori Street. "As we .understand'the; matter," the letter -.gaidi' "there was a considerable' quantity ofr water, lying in tho. Athletic Park (August . 27),, and ill order, to clear, that water away tho officers of the union caused . a : drain to be cut from the Park, in consequence' of wliich . waterflooded : our client's premises.- Considerable damage resulted. ;.. .
