'. v MONTHLY MEETING. v -; ; ; —i;.: : v : . ; .Y' The monthly .-' meeting; of the Victoria College Council was held last evening. Present: Messrs. H. F. von Baast (chairman), ; J. Graham, M.P., J. G. W. Aitken,:E. D. Bell, A. M'Gallum, A. T. Maginnity, A. E. Meek, C. Watson, C. Wilson,' 1. W. Hogg, M.P.; Rev. W. A. Evans, and Sir Robert Stout.Leave of absence was granted to Messrs. Fleming, Ostler, and Quiok. ".'.,'• '.' On the recommendation of the Finance Committee accounts ■ amounting to *8552 Bs. were passed for payment. The town clerk notified the willingness of: the City Council to repair, the approach to the college as far as the turnstile, ' and to grant leave for the Superintendent _ of Reserves to supervise/ the tree-planting, etc ■'■■ Oh the motion of Mr. Aitken'a vote of thanks was passed to the City Council. The Library Committee reported that it had passed and approved the lists of books submitted by the professors, and the order for them had been sent to Messrs. Sotheran"-and Co. The committee recommended that the present librarian's appointment be continued at the present salary, terminable by three months' notice on either side. The report was adopted. Mr. Wilson withdrew his motion in regard to. smoking in the gymnasium.' The chairman observed that the students were not allowed to smoke there en all occasions—only at smoke concerts and when ladies'were not present. This conoluded the public businoss, and the council went into committee.
