OCULAR DEMONSTRATION.
COSTUMIER AND CUSTOMER. "That's what I call ocular demaastration, your Worship." This , remark was made by a solicitor at. the close of a somewnat amusing scene in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The defendant stated that she disputed the account because , a blouse and coat that had been made for her did not fit—the blouse was too small and; the coat too ( big. To demonstrate to the Court that the blouse was too small for her, she decided to don it' over the one which she was wearing. She pointed out that her band would not go through the-»nd of the sleeve, but this little matter was rectified when the costumier stepped up. and unfastened a;button,, and then the defendant: got botli arms into, sleeves. Defendant - then endeavoured to raise both her hands over her head, and there was a loud' report asthe seams of the garment gave way. When those present had . suppressed their laughter, defendant's counsel made the remark about "ocular demonstration." Plaintiff's counsel, . however, said that he was sure that'dofendaiit could sever the seams, of a rirnch stronger garment by'.-stringing; her. arms. "You've got a ■fairly-..■large' arm, you know," ho remarked to defendant. j
