London, August 11. ~ Mr. G. E. J. Townsend, of Dunedin, is now spending a fortnight in Hull, and intends to remain in London for two or three years to gain experience as an optician.. Sir James Mills, K.C.M.G., chairman of tho union Steamship Company of New Zealand, has-been appointed by tho King as a Knight of Grace of the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. Lord Onslow's daughter, Lady Dorothy Wood, who' was .married last year to Lord Halifax's son, gave birth to twin daughters last week.' Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Tubb, of Timaru, are now in London on a holiday trip, and leave this week for Scotland, afterwards .visiting various places of interest in England before' returning to the Dominion, via Suez. Mr. G. P. Armstrong, of Opunake, is taking a holiday trip round . the world, and spent six weeks on. the Continent, visiting the Passion Play at Ober-Ani-.mergau before arriving in this country.
