TEN MILE HANDICAP. The Wellington Harrier Club's season was brought to a closo on Saturday afternoon, tho event being a ten-mile crosscountry handicap. This raco was an in-ter-club one, and brought four competitors from the Brooklyn ranks. Tho following were the competitors and their handicaps:—Rowberry, scratch; Bennett, 40sec; Press, Hmin.; Lamberg, 2Jmin.; Hodson and Murray (Brooklyn), 3min.; Salek and M'Dowall, 3min.; - Delnney (Brooklyn), 4}min.; Lamb, smin.; Power, 7min.j Shaw (Brooklyn), lOJinin.; and O Neil, 12min. The course was two laps of the championship course of five miles. At the end of the.first lap the order of the runners was practically the same as when, they started,.but tho gaps between tho limit men and the back-markers had been- considerably reduced. During the first mile, and a half of the second lap, Hodson, by strenuous work, opened up a' large gap: between himself and,' his next attendants. (Murray and• Lamberg). On. the' golf links he displaced Power, and,, assuming the lead, was never headed, winning by 300 yards. . The race for second place, was keenly contested by Murray, Lamberg, and' Delaney. On entering the final stretch (600 yards from home), Murray, with about 70 yards lead from-Lam-berg and Delaney, seemed to. have an easy win, but Lamberg, moving-quickly away from Delaney, set after Murray at a great clip, only failing, by about three yards to catch' his man after a most ex-, citing. tussle. Members of the Wellington Club who desire -to . participate in the'-annual road race are requested to meet, at To; Aro Bathsnext Saturday. -
