Tho Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr. Lloyd-Gcorgo) convened a small conference, at the Treasury, to discuss tho difficulties in the way of filling in the landtax forms; The conference, was attended by leading surveyors, ostal'o agents, and other experts, Replying to questions respecting land valuations, the Chancellor maintained that tho questions put to landholders were perfectly intelligible. MR. LLOYD-GEORGE EXPLAINS. WHAT IS REALLY REQUIRED. . (Bee; September 16, 0.5 a.m.) London, . September 15. : Mr. Lloyd-George emphasises the statement that two-thirds of the questions criticised in connection with land valuation forms are those addressed to occupiers of real property, who have held their land during the last sixty years. A million and a half small owners had already filled in the returns. The unreturncd forms concerned large properties whero delays wero granted without difficulty. Regarding the trouble and expense of obtaining some information he remarked that an owner was bound to answer only what ho knows and was not bound to express an opinion on intricate legal points such as that of right of way. The Chancellor of tho Exchequer concluded by promising to consider safe: guards relating £0 claims for deductions.
