PROVINCIAL CENTRES.
(From Ocr Special Oorrossondeats.} —: ——— ' . FEUDING, Au interesting address was given by llr.. W. ]?. Bnimwcli nt the annual meet ing of the li'eilding Chamber of Com- ; rnerce dealing with the dairying industry. . He said' that the approximate imftease. in the number of cows iiL the Manawatu, Oroua, and lviwitea districts was .3000, yielding 300 tons of butter, valued, at- ; ,£29,000. . The outlook, for this 1 product was most encouraging, high prices being, already offered . for various lactory outputs. The advent of the milking machines has given an impetus to the dairy industry, and the trouble and annoyanco ! caused, to dairymen, .by their milkers ' leaving in tho middle At the season, had been obviated. The fact'that some fac- 1 tories were introducing tho method of collecting . cream—thus saving: the far-, 1 mer the tro.uble. and expense of carting ! his milk to : the factory—would also tend ' to 'increase and develop the industry. The importance of Feilding as a stock- i centre would continue to. grow, and a ' . substantial increase in the quantity of Jive stock put through the auction yards was i indicated. Messrs. Dalgety and Company. : had "furnished figures which showed the ; quantity of stock sold. at. their yards for i . the nine .months .ending December, 1003, and the same period: tor 1909. 'The in- . crease in the quantity of sheep .amounted • . to about .25 pel - : cent.,, and the valuo'to : .nearly 40' per cent. The increase shown ■in the num her of sheep. - exported from : the Feilding Station was most satisfactory, and in this respect the .Teilding ■station occupied' the second position in the North Island. In .connection -with local trade, it could safely be said that conlidence had been'fully'restored. Building operations; which, during .the past two.years,.had been' almost'at a stand- . still, had taken a decided move, .: and, during .the coming summer (llr.' Bramwell anticipates) quite, a' busy , time for all .trades will set in. . For the ensuing year \'of-the Chamber of Commcrco; officers were elected as fallow President,. . Mr;. -Hugh ' M'lntyre;-vice-presidents, Messrs! D. Piyde' and E. J. Wackrill; committee, Messrs.-' A. H. Atkinson, It. W. Neal, W. ;J.! Bramwell, G. Spence, Cobbe, <H. Tolley, antl I\. I'iram;'auditor,'-Mr. J. E. Barltrop. The late 'Father' O'Meara's successor as parish priest in feilding is father ; Golden, whb has, been in charge of Kai- : kour.v, for the past ten' years..
