rfrom Our Special Correspondent.) 0 — ON BIBLE IN SCHOOLS. THE -WORDING OF !A CIRCULAR, • The monthly meeting of the Petone West School ; Committee was held , last evening. present were: Messrs. Castle '(chairman), Burridge, Snow, Davis, Parrant, and' Mayiiard. It was resolved to tCnce the garden plots iu tho playground, the money to ue drawn from we concert fund. Mr. Burridgo was deputed to supervise tho work. . Mr. Burridge asked the chairman if tho Hutt aud Petone Ministers' Association had received any authority to circularise the district in reference to giving Bible readings in the school after hours. The chairman replied that : a motion giving the necessary permission to the association had . been passed. 1 "Then,", continued ' Air. Burridge, "1 wish to enter my .emphatic ..protest' against this Bible teaching.; Tho ministers have' exceeded their duty,, and. they are taking a mean advantage of the parents of the West End. School pupils in distributing these pamphlets. ■ Mr. Bedingfield (headmaster) said that he had received several complaints from parents ,-about, the matter. ■ ■ Mr. Davis said that it was an insult, to the intellect of the parents and an insult to the committe'c. The motion passed by the committee allowing the school to be used for religious instruction was l'ight and properi but. the ministers-had exceeded their duty in using these circulars.

Mr. Evans (secretary), referring to tho minute-boolt, stated that,. at. previous meetidgs the committee hod passed a,resolution allowing the school, to be used for: Bible instruction, one,"day a week, after school hours, provided, that the atteiidahco was subject- to; parents' approval, and that the matter of ; arrangements' be left in th 6 hands of the headmaster. Tho speaker, thought that thoro was nothing objectionable in the circular, which simply states: ''I do not desire my children to remain for Bible lessons 'on Tuesday afternoons. Signed, etc.". The chairman remarked that most ptopie objected to the word "not." If the circular had been worded 'differently no harm would have been done. ' ,
