Taupo is already a very popular tourist resort on account of tho excellent fishing to bo obtained there and its proximity to the'' thermal resorts.'■•'• Mr. Jennings, member for Taumarunui, has been urging that additional avenues of enjoyment should be opened to sportsmen if possiblo, and in consequence of his representations the Minister for Agriculture (the Hon. T. Mackenzie) has decided to forward four red deer to the district as the nucleus of a herd. These deer will bo liberated on the Kaiinanawa Hills, where thoy should do : very well, and it is hoped later to "liberate additional deer. ■ The Minister is also considering tho question of liberating Californian quail in the district.
