Mr. Derwent Wood, the sculptor, has been, commissioned to execute the first statue erected in the Empire in honour of General Wolfe.; The statue will consist of a bronze figure 93in. high. It .is to be erected at Westernham, Kent, next January. '.",." ";".'.'' James Wolfe, was-born at Westerham, li.eht, England, on January 2, 1727, and was. killed' at the Battle of Quebec on September 13, 1759.. He served at Dettingen' in 1743,•against the Scottish, insurgents 174546 i and at Lawfeld in 1747. He was made brigadier-general in 1758, and commanded a' division under Amherst at the siege and capture-of Louis-, burg in 1758. ' He was then made major-, general and commander of the expedition against Quebec. After making unsuccessful attempts on Montcalm's worksi he led his force tip the heights of Abraham on the night of September 12, and died in the hour of viotory on September 13,-1759. ~"■■' ' " :.■ -
