'An army of' candidates is busy throughout the electorates. -• Mr.' Wade,' tho Premier, / faced the' Newcastle 'electors last night, and came in for a lot of heckling over.the "Coercion Act" and imprisonment of the strike leaders,' but, on the whole, had a fair' hearing. . Defending the Act mentioned, he declared' that whether a Liberal 'oi ; a. Labour Government was in' power the 'law' must prevail, even at the cost of suffering to many, hearts.

THE' STATE'S SECOND CAMPAIGN
New South Wales-had local option since the passing of tho Liquor (Amendment) Act m 1905., ';Tho only vote taken so far was on September 10, 1907. The; poll is held at every State general election,. unless that takes,'place within eighteen from, the date of. the last one. Iho Act is vervv similar to that, in force in New Zealand, and the' electors may :,voto for either . contiriuancej reduction, or prohibition. - The vote is for the o'wtome, and not for the State, and a three ; fifths majdrity is necessary to carry, No-License, the ma jority to amount to ' ea ?f P ei- ceiit; qf the electors on the roll. Reduction is carried by a baro majority. .. • > . far, No-License has not . been carried in any New ■ South Wales - electorate, though m 1007 there were simple majorities for it in 14' electorates, and 65 electorates Carried reduction. The NoLicense party is very, confident. A simultaneous No-License campaign begins in air the electorates on September 17, and lasts until September 25.'.
