THE DEFENCE OFFICE AND N.Z. WAR VETERANS.
Sir,—Some six or'eight weeks ago an old colonist wrote to the Defence Department asking for a form to apply •for the New Zealand war medal as he' had served in .the early 'sixties in the Wahganui Cavalry,. and had put in a land claim to the local magistrate, and wanted to apply for tho war medal at the samo time. However, up to the present time the .high and mighty mili-tary-authorities have not deigned ' to unswer his letter. I may say that I
am'not surprised,' as I have had a goad deal of oxperieilce-'with this Department during the last 45 years. It will take a big, broom' to clean out this Augean stable. The .new Commandant wont do it, as political influence will bo too. much for him.—l am, etc.,
