MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL.
: —-*— — ' *- The monthly meeting of the Makara County Council, held yesterday, was attended by Councillors F.'. T. Mooro , (chairman), J. H. Haggerty, S. Bryant, T. H. Eastwood, S. Monk, and F. H. Hawkins. It was resolved on the' motion of tha chairman , that each councillor -be empowered to grant building permits temporarily and subject to confirmation at the next meeting of the council. This arrangement is designed to meet the fact that the council has no engineer or surveyor. Mr. A. W. Newton, as engineer representing the owners of Block 59, Poriiua East, submitted a draft plan of the proposed Porirua East extension. The matter.is not to bo definitely settled in its details until final plans have been'submitted, but it was agreed that the new roadway bo 15 feet widß with 10 inches of metal at the crown and 6 inches at the sides. Culverts to be of concrete or earthenware pipes, i Councillor Heggarty reported tor the committee, set up in connection .with a proposed survey of the Cro'ten-Ohariu route. At the previous meeting Councillors 'Bryant and Heggarty were deputed to report on. an application by , the Ohariu settlers for a £ for £ sub'>sidy on the cost of having the route I survoyed. 'In company with Mr! Mid-, dleton (engineer), the councillors went over the ground, but as they were informed by Mr. Middloton that a,tunnel | 30 chains long would be necessary on the dividing range, instead of a 15chain tunnel. As had been summarised by the council, thoy deemed it unnecest sary to proceed with the matter. This 1 attitude the council oudorsed. '
Accounts amounting to £215 13s. Id, were passed for payment.
