The first acceptances, numbering fifty-one, for tho New Zealand Cup, which were received on Friday night, are, the Jargest that have been taken for the race for years, tho previous best during the last decade being 47 in 1908, 45 in 1002, 43 in 1904, and 40.in. 1903. Last year's winner and, runner-up, Lady Lucy and Roosevelt, Have both been withdrawn, as -has Frisco, who annexed the big event in 1907. A'noticeable feature amongst the other non-acceptors is the defection of last season's- most prominent two-year-olds, the owners of Formby, Danube, Ashby, and Sunburnt, all winners, each having declined further engagement in the coming race. It is stated that Roosevelt and John were both to be accepted for,,but their owner overlooked tho date.
