Mr. Justice Edwards proceeds to Mastertou to-day, to preside at the sittings of the Supreme Court in that centre. Dr. A. Graham Bell (Washington), the inventor of tho telephone, is in Christchurch, accompanied by Mrs.. Bell and Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Baldwin (Canada). He is expected in Wellington in a day ( or two. Mr. W. M. Singleton, Chief Dairy Instructor, roturned to Wellington on Saturday night by the New Plymouth express. . ' •; Sergeant J. B. Smith, of the Roseneath troop of Boy Scouts, who is leaving Wellington, was entertained at a dinner in, the Hotel Windsor on Saturday evening by Scoutmaster S. F. M'Lean and members of the troop. Sergeant Smith has, been with the Roseneatb troop since its inauguration, and complimentary reference ■■ to his excellent record was made by Scoutmaster M'Lean and Patrol-leaders Hutchison, Mitchell, and Watt. Madame Calve and the members of her concert company left for the south after, the concert on Saturday evening. They are' to givo two more concerts in Wellington on September 17 and 20. The funeral of Mr. Henry Plimmer, late of George Street, which'took place on Saturday afternoon, was, -largely attended. The chief mourners were Messrs.. John arid .Harold ! Plimmeri .sons. of ; the deceased,: and. his »two brothers, - Messrs. . John :A. ' and Charles Plimmer.- A'short service was. conducted at the house by - the Rev.' Mr. Fee, who'also officiated at - the graveside.: . .' ...'■: -.' ' Mr. Robert Bilkey,-senr., died at'the residence..of his daughter (Mrs.. W. Vv Davy) at Buckland (near Auckland) last week.: '. : .The deceased, who had attained the . advanced; ago . of' ninety years, arrived in Auckland by- the. ship Bombay, in the, year 1865, and-hadre-sided in Buckland for the past thirtytwo; years.
