Mr.' Isaac Solby, who, during thu last'twenty-six years, has lectured.several times in Wellington, arrived yesterday from Sail I'Vauoisco. Hi; states that ho Went tn America sonic thirteen years ago, and in California lie was 'imprisoned fur four years and nine ■months for liriiig n shot which hurt no ono, and- then ho declares that because he said to the warder that he would appeal, and press for redress in tho higher courts, ho was sent without trial to tin; Lunatic Asylum, from whicli lie.only escaped by the intervention, of the IJritisli Consul. Ho also decaires that in San Francisco he was boycotted, the custody of his children taken from him, and was six times assaulted and could get no redress. His action in 'firing the shot was, he states, done with tho intention of testing in .a criminal court .the legality, of the 'Methods employed against him. He tells the story of his treatment, in a scries of lectures he purposes giving next week. Tho preliminary address will.bo in? the.
