SHEEP COMPANIES PUT MONEY IN

' The "Manchester Guardian," in an article on colonial wool, says tho wool sellers regret tho inevitable breaking up of the Australian pastoral estates. It recalls the South Australian Government's experience of land resumption, and adds that experienced politicians are making a huge mistake in the supposed interests of the small farmers.. Several sheep-owning companies in Great Britain are considering a joint scheme to build ten liners at a cost of ■ £2,000,000. Five of these will be nm as ; high-class passenger boats betweenLiverpool ami the Eiyer Plate, in conjunation with an existing line and the Trans-Andean* railway.- . The. other five vessels will bo .of the refrigerating type, but of high, speed, and will also run between London and the' River Plate. DEBATE ON THE BILL, * POWER TO TAX QUESTIONED. Melbourne, September 2. ; In the Federal House of Representatives the Laud Tax Bill was further" discussed. - t ■ ... Sir John Quick contended that the object of the Bill was to forco'men to sell their land; not to raise revenue. It was therefore' unconstitutional, as the Commonwealth, was not able to alter the land policy. He argued that the tax had been found to bo a failure in New Zealand. , • . ..
